W marcu 2004 roku inwestor strategiczny dla Polskich Hut Stali - Mittal Steel zaakceptował program inwestycyjny i zobowiązał się do realizacji czterech projektów: w Hucie im. Sendzimira w Krakowie, w Hucie Katowice w Dąbrowie Górniczej, w sosnowieckiej Hucie Cedler oraz w Hucie Florian w Świętochłowicach.
